"10-minute-date with the publisher": Loretta Felix, owner of Scently Sweet Candles of Waynesville
By S.G. Rainbolt

When Scently Sweet Candles closed in August of 2000, under previous owner, their loyal patrons had no idea of what transpired...

The previous owner, Brenda Wood, was seeking a buyer for the business. When leads did not pan-out she decided to close Scently Sweet Candles. Wood was deceived.

"I came in and talked with one of the employees," said Loretta Felix, "And told her I wanted to buy the business. She told me Brenda had decided to not sell and close the business."

According to Felix, "The employee was seeking to buy the business herself but couldn't come up with the money, so she lied to me."

Wood later found out Felix's interest in Scently Sweet Candles, a deal was made and the business reopened October 15, 2000.

Felix had extensive experience working for the federal government for 37 years. She admitted to working under 10 different generals and 19 aids.

When asked why she chose to buy Scently Sweet Candles, now knowing her background, she said, "I just wanted something to do [after retirement from the federal government]. Originally, I wanted to reopen the business where Hair On The Square is located in the Waynesville Square. But we have loyal patrons [where we're at]."

Scently Sweet Candles has over 110 fragrances of candles and oils. Additional products include lotions, bath gel, goats milk, glisten soaps, stained glass, ceramics, greeting cards and crafts.
